Signs of Interstitial Cystitis

Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, usually caused by bacterial infection. Although blood in urine should always be treated seriously, it is a much more urgent symptom in children, and should be properly investigated.

  • Fever
  • Backache
  • A general feeling of unwell
  • Urine passed frequently, with need to get up at night to pass urine
  • Passing urine cause searing or burning pain
  • Ache in the lower part of the abdomen, which can be persistent or worse after urination
  • Urine may be dark, cloudy or stained with blood: this can be the color of blood, but may only appear to be slightly pinkish

Interstitial Cystitis are more likely in females than males, because females have shorter urethra compared to males. Mild cases may resolve without any intervention at all, although may need antibiotics.

Urinary infections in children are very unusual, and should always be thoroughly investigated by a doctor.
