Sunken Nipple
Nipples of the breast can be sunken (retracted). This is a normal variation and present from birth.
Signs of Sunken Nipples
- Retracted nipple or nipples from birth
- No other signs
- If a normal nipple becomes retracted this may be a sign of breast disease including breast cancer
Retracted nipple may cause problems on breast feeding for women. It may be a sign of breast cancer, particularly when the nipple has formerly protruded. If the latter is suspected, medical help should be sought, although often a lump in the breast and discharge from the nipple will also be present.
