Hyperventilation Symptoms and Conditions
Hyperventilation is caused by over breathing, by inhaling too much oxygen. Although it is very distressing for the individual, it is not usually a sign of physical illness. Often result from anxiety or panic.

Symptoms of Hyperventilation
- Gulping in air
- Rapid and deep breathing
- Dizziness
- Altered sensation in hands and around face with tingling
- Confusion and inability to think straight
Most attacks of Hyperventilation will resolve by themselves, and they are not usually a cause for concern, although there may be an underlying problems with worry, fear, phobias or Anxiety. If an attack does not resolve quickly, the individual should be invited to breath into a paper bag (never anything else). This restores the carbon dioxide balance in the blood, and breathing should return to normal. No other type of object should used for this purpose as it may cause suffocation.
